Bioethanol is a mixture of conventional fuel and vegetable ethanol derived from sugar cane molasses produced by PT Energi Agro Nusantara, a subsidiary of PTPN Group. This step is in line with the government’s goal to reduce dependence on fossil-based oil.
President Director of PTPN III (Persero) Holding Plantation Mohammad Abdul Ghani said that PTPN Group is committed to continue developing renewable energy based on environmentally friendly raw materials. “This is one of the concrete manifestations of our Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) implementation,” he said in Jakarta, Thursday (08/06/2023).
In order to encourage the acceleration of the fulfillment of sugarcane-based bioethanol, Indonesian President Joko Widodo has launched a sugarcane bioethanol program for energy security in November 2022, during a working visit to the bioethanol plant of PT Energi Agro Nusantara (Enero), Mojokerto Regency, East Java. On the occasion, Jokowi expected the bioethanol program to continue to be accelerated, starting from 5% bioethanol (E5) in fuel then increasing E10, E20 and so on.
On the same occasion, President Jokowi also witnessed the signing of a cooperation between Plantation Holding PT Perkebunan Nusantara III (Persero) and PT Pertamina (Persero) on the use of Bioethanol Towards National Energy Security. From the cooperation, PT Pertamina (Persero) plans to launch bioethanol fuel in June 2023.
