To Eradicate and Prevent Narcotics Abuse in the Worker Environment, PTPN III (Persero) and BNN Sign MoU

Jakarta, 28 October 2024 – PTPN III (Persero) and the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) signed a Joint Memorandum of Understanding/MoU concerning Prevention and Eradication of Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Narcotics and Narcotics Precursors. The MoU was signed by the Director of Holding Perkebunan Nusantara PTPN III (Persero), Mohammad Abdul Ghani, and the Head of BNN, Marthinus Hokum, in Jakarta, Monday (10/28/2024).

This MoU is the basis for cooperation between the two agencies in developing and implementing prevention strategies, as well as eradication of narcotics, especially in the work environment of Holding Perkebunan Nusantara. This collaborative step is taken to increase employee awareness, understanding, and resilience to the dangers of narcotics and the destructive impacts they cause, both for individuals and companies.

In his remarks, the Director of Holding Perkebunan Nusantara PTPN III (Persero), Mohammad Abdul Ghani, said that currently drug abuse among palm oil workers tends to increase and is at a very worrying stage. “Previously, one of the 3 (palm oil) bunches was exchanged for crystal meth, now all three are exchanged for crystal meth,” he said.

PTPN III (Persero) as one of the BUMN has a big responsibility in maintaining the integrity and security of the work environment, and ensuring that all employees are free from the influence of narcotics. “We hope that the cooperation on the Prevention and Eradication of Abuse and Illicit Trafficking of Narcotics and Narcotics Precursors (P4GN) agreed upon between his party and the BNN can help resolve the drug problem among palm oil workers comprehensively,” added Ghani.

On the same occasion, the Head of BNN, Marthinus Hokum, explained that the underlying cause of the increase in drug abuse among plantation workers, especially palm oil, was the continuous propaganda carried out by drug syndicates by providing a misleading narrative that consuming it (drugs) would support the productivity of workers. “This is of course wrong. We must provide a counter narrative, education so that our brothers and sisters are aware of the dangers of drug abuse,” he explained.

The Head of BNN also hopes that cooperation between the two parties in the P4GN effort can run well, and have an impact on society, in order to support one of the 17 priority programs of President Prabowo Subianto, namely the Prevention and Eradication of Drugs. “Hopefully today will be an extraordinary momentum to work forward, to realize the government’s priority programs in the Government of President Prabowo Subianto,” said Marthinus.
